  8. one used by most applications in "Untitled" windows.

  47. ApFont may distributed everywhere for evaluation; it may not be sold or offered
  48. for sale, or ╥included╙ with another product offered for sale, except with the
  49. expressed permission of the author.  This includes the so-called ╥public
  50. domain╤shareware╙ disks which are sold for profit.  If you want to include
  51. ApFont on such a disk, ask me and we╒ll work something out.  (National
  52. services, such as CompuServe, GEnie, et al.; and BBS╒s which charge a fee
  53. for membership but not for each download; are specifically excluded from the
  54. ╥sale╙ and ╥profit╙ clauses╔go ahead and post it.)

  63. To install ApFont, simply drag the icon into your System Folder.  The ApFont
  64. icon will be visible the next time you run the Control Panel desk accessory.

  68. To use ApFont, click on the icon in the list on the left side of the window.  When
  69. the ApFont window comes up, you may select a new default font by simply
  70. clicking in the ╥Change Font╙ box and using the menu which appears.

  74. You may also use ApFont to restore the original default (Geneva) that came
  75. when you first got your Mac by clicking on the ╥Use Geneva╙ button.  This is
  76. much faster and easier than taking the battery out of your Mac, and you also
  77. won't have to reset the date and time.  (Besides, it's the ONLY way to get the
  78. "factory default" font on a Mac II or Mac SE, as the Zap-PRAM operation
  79. [opt-cmd-shift while selecting Control Panel] won't affect this field.)

  83. The ╥All Open Files╙ and ╥System File Only╙ radio buttons select whether or not
  84. to look at fonts in application files.  (Under MultiFinder it looks for fonts in DA
  85. Handler--not too useful.)  ╥Include Suitcase¬ Files,╙ if unchecked, will
  86. suppress the lookup in files opened by Steve Brecher's Suitcase utility.  I
  87. strongly recommend using the default configuration:  System File Only, Include
  88. Suitcase¬ Files.

  92. NOTE:  Version 3.0 adds three features.
  93.  
  94.     1:  BY POPULAR DEMAND, there is now a method to change the
  95. default size of text.  CAVEAT USER:  you can easily change the text size of
  96. System windows, such as alerts, dialogs, and the ╥window╙ which contains all
  97. other windows, the desktop, and the menu bar.  This means that you can have
  98. menus which can be read across the room, or only with a magnifying lens. 
  99. However, most applications set the text size of all new windows to 12-point
  100. anyway, nullifying the effort.  I would recommend NOT changing the size
  101. except in unusual circumstances.

  103.     2:  Fonts and sizes are now selected by Popup Menus.

  105.     3: The ╥Sample╙ window, which shows every possible keyboard
  106. generated character, is now centered on the screen.  Previously it was
  107. centered on the Control Panel window, whose location is hard-coded (i.e., in
  108. the upper-left corner on very large screens).

  129. This version makes some minor changes to correct bugs which exist in many
  130. cdev's, including the one Apple uses as its Golden Example.  No new features
  131. are added, in the interest of getting a working version out as soon as possible.

  137. Ñ  Replaced the popup menu code with something a bit more standard which,
  138. not entirely by coincidence, does not crash on a Mac II.  The previous version
  139. began crashing, only on a Mac II, and only under system version 6.0.2

  143. Ñ  In order to accomplish the above, something had to go; therefore ApFont will
  144. no longer support the Macintosh 128K, 512K, or XL (the 512Ke is still
  145. supported).  If anyone out there needs this support, drop me a line and we can
  146. talk about it.  (I kind of doubt it; to run System 4.x and later [the first to support
  147. cdev's], you just about need at least an 800K disk and therefore at least a 512Ke.)
